Friday Fame: Drew Barrymore

"Every morning I stay in bed for minutes to ponder my place in the universe. Then I wash my face and check my karma."

Much like my last Friday Fame, my decision to spotlight Drew Barrymore was for her loveliness both inside and out. She's a charming free-spirit with a lot of smarts and a lot of daring: her style knows no boundaries and her personality sparks with animation. Those are two of the things that draw me toward her as a style icon. I also appreciate her unconventional beauty; she has a look that's genuinely all her own, and I think that's something to be celebrated. With so many celebrities it seems like they're all trying to look like the same person, but Drew stays true to herself and embraces her own brand of beautiful. Here's a little selection of looks that I think illuminate her adventurous personal style (plus one that was just too cute to pass up) and, in her own words, some of the little things that make Drew oh-so-fabulous Drew.

"There's something liberating about not pretending. Dare to embarrass yourself. Risk."

"There's nothing like the power of a smile."

"I never regret anything. Because every little detail of your life is what made you into who you are in the end."

"My whole life I've wanted to feel comfortable in my skin. It's the most liberating thing in the world."

"When I lay my head on the pillow at night I can say, 'I was a decent person today.' That's when I feel beautiful."

"I just think happiness is what makes you pretty. Period. Happy people are beautiful. They become like a mirror and they reflect that happiness."

Are you inspired by Drew's flair inside and out? Or are there any other icons you appreciate for both their style and philosophy?
