Fall Fashion Trends

There are so many great fashion trends this fall. Everything from the 50s to the 70s, from rustic to romantic. Here's a look at a few of my favorites along with some ideas on how to get the looks without the sky-high price tag!

The trend: Bohemian (Anna Sui)

A successful bohemian look is all about the details, throwing on any old mismatched pattern and some quirky necklaces isn't exactly boho chic. Mixing patterns can be scary business, but keep them in the same color family and you'll be surprised at how many different looks you can create.

A fun way to get a unique, boho look is to pair a spring or summer dress - maybe a maxidress or a sundress with leggings - with a big, rustic sweater. Mixing textures is uniquely bohemian, and you can still use some of your summer pieces. What really completes a bohemian look, in my opinion, is the jewelry so have fun with it! Layer necklaces in similar tones, try doubling your bracelets on one arm. Maybe pair a wooden bangle with a pearl-and-lace bracelet. It's fun to get quirky!

The trend: Leopard (3.1 Phillip Lim)

Leopard seems to be one of the biggest trends this fall. I've never had much interest in it, but seeing it used in the 3.1 Phillip Lim collection has inspired me. He also used a lot of muted, steel-toned leopard patterns which are a bit more chic than orange leopard patterns, but the orange is what I've been seeing in stores. Both seem to be quite popular.

If you're afraid of the bold print...you're not alone. I know a lot of people who are. A great way to incorporate it into your look without taking the plunge of purchasing a skirt or top is to bring the pattern in through your accessories. It offers just a punch of the trend without making you feel like you belong at the zoo. Get your feet wet by using just a peak of the pattern like these great options from TopShop: a bag, a headband or cute leopard stud earrings!

The Trend: 1950s (Louis Vuitton)

It's a Mad Men world right now, as it seems to be every late-summer when AMC's critically-acclaimed show returns to the air and Christina Hendricks brings curves back to television. Full circle skirts, cinched waists, chic bags, kitten heels - it's all back and better than ever! Oh, and don't forget the swishy pony tails.

Rock it for less: Modcloth.com

ModCloth has so many adorable dresses, both new and vintage. The cute patterns and lovely details are so uniquely retro that you feel like you've gone back in time by just looking at them. Pair them with pearls and kitten heels and you'll feel like you stepped off the set of Mad Men!
