Jenmarie's Oscar Favorites

The Oscars. What a night! If it weren't for the fashion and my love for certain films/people I'm honestly not sure I'd watch it due to continuous disappointment over the past few years. The quality of the show is not what it once was, it lacks professionalism, and the evil in the world seems to sneak it's way through little by little each year. I believe the Oscars lost their "clean and classy" feel a long time ago and I don't ever expect it to be the same again.

I was very excited to hear about James Franco and Anne Hathaway's roles as the hosts of the show. However I quickly became annoyed and worried for the rest of the night as they came out onto the stage and embarrassed themselves. James seemed to not even want to be there and Anne came off really strong. As the night progressed she did a much better job and was filled with energy and excitement while James stood there like a statue and an unusual smile. Did he have too much to drink? Was he nervous? Thankfully Anne was there to lead the way or it would've been a complete disaster. Sure, she had some silly lines and needed to relax a little but can you imagine it without her? I cringe at the thought. The show would've been even more dull in my opinion. It didn't flow well at all!

I was glad to see Alice in Wonderland/Colleen Atwood take Best Costume Design. Colleen Atwood also designed Helena Bonham Carter's dress for the night! Inception took home a few awards (Cinematography, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing, and Visual Effects) and Toy Story 3 received Best Feature Film. Both made me quite happy. Of course I was also excited for Natalie Portman who won Best Actress, and Christian Bale for Best Supporting Actor as I'm big fans of theirs but I haven't seen either of their movies they won for.

Melissa Leo made me laugh during her acceptance speech for Best Supporting Actress. She truly was so thankful she won! I melted as Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi sang "I See the Light" from Tangled. I wish this song would've won! Alen Menken is a genius!

Onto the fashion shall we?

Anne Hathaway
Anne is one of those women who looks beautiful and classy in various styles and colors. She couldn't have looked more gorgeous than in this burgundy silk chiffon Atelier Versace gown from the Spring 2011 Collection. All she needs is a necklace and then you have perfection.

(These are just a few of the many dresses Anne wore.)

She definitely had the best dresses of the night. In fact, I think I liked every single one of them. She was adorable as she danced around in her Oscar de la Renta silver beaded tassel dress. I mean, you kind of have to in a dress like that! I loved the radiant sapphire satine Giorgio Armani Prive', and of course who wouldn't die over the lace and crystal dress by Tom Ford? I'm telling you, she looks good in anything!

Hailee Steinfeld
Young girls often wear gowns that are too sophisticated for them to events like these, but not Hailee. This pale pink Marchesa dress that she helped design is perfect for a fourteen-year-old! She looks so sweet, just like a Princess!

Cate Blanchett
I'm obsessed with the bubbly beading on this pale lavender silk chiffon Givenchy Couture gown. It's so unique! I think Cate looks fantastic in this color and her hair-cut is simple and lovely. I think I would alter this dress so that it doesn't look like there is cut-out on the bust area. I would've rather seen it look like one piece. Besides that, I really love this ensemble.

Natalie Portman
I think Natalie has been doing such an amazing job choosing just the right gowns to wear for her pregnant belly. She is wearing a plum colored Rodarte gown, Tiffany & Co. tassel earrings, and believe it or not Jimmy Choo heels. It's not the best idea to wear heels while pregnant, but she still looks beautiful.

Reese Witherspoon
Doesn't she have the most darling face? I think her overall look is so effortless and chic. She is wearing a black and white Armani Prive' column gown with a big Barbie-like ponytail. I think she could've used a delicate necklace to match the emerald earrings but besides that she's absolutely glowing!

Other Honorable Mentions: Halle Berry, Mika Kunis, Helena Bohham Carter (loved her fan-shaped clutch!) and Elizabeth Chambers.

So, which dresses were your favorites of the night?
